Today was a little less active. After an early morning talking more with Zach (owner of cottages) over a cup of masala chai, we headed back for Nairobi for a stop on the Kenyan National Museum. This is mostly a natural history museum with some great materials on the history of Kenya that I think will be a great focus for my students. The place was MOBBED with school kids in matching track suits. It was both adorable and chaotic and brought to mind how those museum trips look the same, no matter where you live. Apparently Friday is a BIG field trip day. There is also a snake park attached to the museum and after Paul’s son had experienced some trauma around this when he was younger, he was admirably determined to conquer that fear. He did!

We then had a fantastic, and very filling, lunch at Carnivore Restaurant. A Nairobi institution for many years and a highly regarded restaurant, it has a great and festive cultural atmosphere. Think Brazilian Steakhouse, African style and yes, they even have substantial vegetarian options, though I wasn’t about to waste calories on that with this opportunity! We ate ourselves into a food coma before returning to my hotel from the previous stay in Nairobi to rest up for our final push out to the Maasai Mara. Needless to say, I did not need dinner that evening and retired early, repacked my things, and watched some of the Euro quarter finals in between frequent power outages. A nice day overall!!
